In 1987 the Sunday School was revived with the approval
of the Parish Council in St. Peter’s Parish by
Sr. Flavia.
The initial response was poor. Classes were held on
the ground floor of St. Stanislaus School and Fr.
Benjamin Fernandes supervised the programme.
Thanks to a group of dedicated teachers, in a few years
the response of children from K.G. to Std. X grew. The
teachers were both committed and creative in preparing
the children for the Sunday Eucharist and teaching of
children at different levels.

the Eucharist was celebrated in the Convent Chapel and
classes were conducted in St. Joseph’s School.
The response of the children was so good that they filled
the Chapel and their participation was most lively.
The animation very especially by Fr. George
Rosario, Fr. Vincent Vaz and Fr. Gerard Rodricks
was well adapted to gaining the interest of the children
and helping them to receive the Gospel message.
Owing to want of space in the Chapel, parents were discouraged
from participating in the Children’s Mass. A few
always found their way in.
When Fr. George Rosario took charge of the Sunday School,
he suggested giving it a new name – “Jesus
Club”. The very title continued to draw
children and help them understand the purpose of Sunday
School.
From the very inception
of the Sunday School, days of prayer and in-service
programmes were held for the staff. The Jesus Club came
to celebrate Parents Day, Teachers Day, Children’s
Day and Christmas. Outreach programmes were also organized
taking the children to the less fortunate children.
With the appointment of Fr. Gerard Rodricks as Parish
Priest, the Sunday School has moved to the Parish with
the Eucharist at St. Peter’s Church and classes
at St. Stanislaus. Fr. Gerard believed that this was
essential for the children to be rooted in the Parish.
The move made it possible for parents to attend the
Children’s Mass.
To the programme, Fr. Gerard has added a lot of fun
days which the children love. Greatly appreciated is
the training of the children for their First Holy Communion.
Fr. Gerard has put so much life and meaning into the
preparation that parents from other Parishes are eager
to have their children trained at St. Peter’s.
