Family Camp at Stanislaus Villa, Lonavla –
Orpheus Rebello
This camp held in May 2006 was a memorable experience
for the 45 or so people who attended it. An assortment
from all corners: Bandra, Marol, Malad, Nerul, Pune,
Goa, made up the colourful gang. The weather was cool,
tall shady trees, birdsong in the air.
The day began with mass at 7.30 followed by breakfast.
This was digested through a series of games in the garden
surrounding the Villa. The ambience is rustic and very
soothing with cool breezes wafting throughout the day.
Lunch was the highlight of the afternoon. Rosary in
the evening, substantial dinner to restore sapped energy.
The food was substantial and tasty. Each one washed
his/her own plate.
The short holiday was crammed with laughter and activity
for young and old: throw ball, football, telegames,
a visit to the Water Park for a rain dance, long walks,
new friends were made, telephone nos. exchanged.
There were some memorable highlights:
(1) Mother’s Day- The little children sang “Mother
of Mine”, the teens sang another song. Mothers
were given a token of gratitude: pink sequined hearts
with a teary message.
(2) A mock wedding-of two unlikely couples dressed in
corny costume of wigs and witch’s hat and chor-bazaar
clothes.
(3) Fancy Dress- where imagination ran wild.
(4) Bon Fire- on the final evening…. All these
left one breathless. What more could one ask for?
The day before we left, the campers went to Lonavla
to buy their goodies; chikki and farsan for self and
friends.
There was a bus that brought us to the camp and one
that took us back. Teary-eyed farewells were said as
we waved the Camp and the birds a fond farewell.
