The
Babanagar Housing Complex has been in existence for
54 years consisting of five blocks as also the Staff
Quarters of St. Stanislaus High School. Ever since
then, the residents have been honouring "Our
Lady of Fatima" by praying the rosary during
the month of May. The Small Christian Communities
were directed by Bishop Bosco Penha to name our Communities.
Following his directives, we the Babanagar zone adopted
the name "The Holy Rosary Zone" thus placing
our community under the maternal protection of our
Blessed Mother as she is very dear to us.
As a community we offer our dearest
Mother spiritual bouquet of Rosaries not only in the
month of May but also in October as the feast of the
Holy Rosary falls on 7th October. On the 2nd of October
every year, the members of our community together
with other zones go on their annual pilgrimage to
the Basilica on the mount. This is followed by light
refreshments and fellowship.
Our community consists of 52 families.
Each animator is in-charge of approximately 8 to 10
families. The animators visit the families and very
efficiently and systematically distribute the Parish
Bulletin - "KEYSTONE", prayer booklets,
convey messages and notices in regard to the zone
and parish whenever needed as well as the Community
Welfare Fund Envelopes.
Our Core group meets on Sunday following
the Parish Council Meeting. At our meetings, we strive
to follow the seven step method which has indeed helped
each one of us grow spiritually. At our meetings we
share the news of the community and of the Parish
Council. Fr. Albert Jou and Sr. Lily attend our meetings
and offer suggestions and support.
During the season of Lent, weekly
Stations of the Cross are conducted in the community
which is well attended by the families and efforts
made to prepare the Stations of the Cross. The Stations
of the Cross conducted in the homes of the sick and
housebound is deeply appreciated.
Our recent out-reach programme -
visit to the Clergy Home and presentation of a hamper.
Activities during the current
year - 2008:
11th February being "World
Day of the Sick", the animators visited the homes
of the sick/housebound and prayed a decade of the
Rosary with them. Communion was also distributed by
our Eucharist Minister.
The Annual Easter Thanksgiving Mass
celebrated by Fr. Jou was held on 9th April at St.
Sebastian's School Hall which was well attended by
80 members of our community. This was followed by
a get-together.
The Rosary was prayed every evening
during the month of May. Often after the Rosary a
joyful spirit of fellowship was experienced.
